Eucalyptus camaldulensisContinuing on the tree theme, this one is in Orroroo beside the creek. It's one of the most impressive examples of a red gum you are likely to see. It's one of the major features of Orroroo which is a small town with a fine main street but, sadly, with a lot of empty shops.

This tree is in Vansittart Park, Mount Gambier. It was taken on a cold sunny day in winter 2005.

Cork oak (Quercus suber)
If you'd like to see an impressive tree, go to Belair National Park and take the road up to Long Gully. Once you get past the tennis courts and playground, continue along the road until you see on the LH side a magnificent cork oak (Quercus suber). This is a very old tree, as the sign in front will tell you. It is old, huge, gnarled and impressive in every way. There is another of these trees further along on Saddle Hill Road. It is rather more affected by the ravages of age with some beautiful bracket fungi. Best to walk or go by bike as you'll find it easier to spot these and other interesting things.
